The real question they should be asking is, “where does the traffic come from?” Then I can shout “Everywhere!”
Every action you do online brings traffic to your site and every action your players do should bring traffic as well; YouTube anyone? It’s important to realize there are no miracles. Bringing traffic to your site takes hard work and small steps.

Great websites are often not multimedia websites. The key to great design is a functional design that helps your visitors and gets them to playing your games and paying you money, not entertain them.
In today’s gaming industry, very few gamers are entertained by websites themselves; what counts is the information the website provides. The presentation of the site will reflect on the game. This is why great games can do badly if the website looks bad.

One of the most common discussed topics is Search Engine Optimization. SEO is an activity every developer /publisher should use for their website. SEO should be approached as a way to gain a steady flow of traffic over a long period of time. So don’t expect to optimize your site and suddenly have a huge Alexa rating! Say SEO brings in an extra 5,000 -10,000 users a month. In a year that could be 120,000 new visitors! Well worth it in my opinion.
The first and most important thing to remember about SEO is not to use tricks or secret methods that the snake oil salesman of the internet will try to sell you.
